Project Tsunami
In recognition of her national and international reputation in the field of women's entrepreneurship, Dr. Beverley Kitching, Lecturer in the School of International Business, was invited to participate in the recently created Project Tsunami.

Project Tsunami is a global accelerator for women's entrepreneurship. It was created to implement the recommendations of the OECD conference on women entrepreneurs held in Paris in November 2000, and to accelerate the sharing of best practices about women's entrepreneurship in five core strategic areas:

  • Research about women-owned small and medium enterprises (WSME's)
  • Access to capital and credit
  • Entrepreneurial education and training for girls and women
  • Access to networks and markets, including international markets
  • Technology access and utilization

In December of 2002, organizers of Project Tsunami made an initial presentation to SME policy makers in Paris in preparation for the June 2004 double ministerial in Istanbul where Ministers of Industry and SME Ministers from 74 countries will discuss policies relating to both SME's and WSME's.
