Initiative 6 - Technology, Innovation and Sustainability
While capacity building, financing and access to markets usually get the lion’s share of the attention, these three topics – technology, innovation and sustainability – are critical to creating competitive women-owned businesses that can successfully compete in the global economy.
- Access to Information and Communication Technologies. Promote programs that facilitate access to ICTs by women owned businesses in developing and developed countries, including broadband and mobile technology.
- Innovation and Inventors. Partner with organizations that encourage innovation and inventions that are created, developed and commercialized by women.
- Greening the Global Supply Chain. Supply chain problems include dangerous emissions, toxic products, food safety issues and expensive inefficiencies. Quantum Leaps is partnering with WEConnect China to engage women suppliers in greening the global supply chain. This aligns with China’s sustainability focus in its 12th Five Year Plan, starting in 2012. Our partners will identify and promote good practices, and select China’s Woman Entrepreneur Green Supplier of the Year. Partners in this pilot include the China Association of Women Entrepreneurs, British Standards Institute, the US Embassy in Beijing, and multinational corporations that are leaders in greening their supply chains. Subsequently, we will partner with WEConnect International to share this initiative globally.
